Presumably, most people are going to eat between 14 and 21 meals per week. That is a lot of cooking and preparing for the person who wants to eat healthy and stay on budget. Kitchen Tip #4 is going to decrease your time spent in the kitchen and allow you to be more productive.
Think Big – Make More
This Kitchen Tip is one that has just become part of my life. No matter what size your family is you can do this and save yourself time. Give it a shot and see if it helps you! I know it will. You can thank me later!
Pick a main protein for the week. It can be chicken, beef, pork, lamb, fish, eggs, whatever you like. I am going to use chicken for the example because we are chicken farmers and it just makes sense to me. Now this is simple; whatever protein you want to focus on, purchase and cook twice the amount at the same time. You want a whole roasted chicken for a nice dinner? Great! Buy and cook 2 at the same time. It will take you merely seconds longer to put two whole chickens in a roasting pan and season as it would one. When they are cooked, you have one for your amazing meal and you put the other in the fridge; or the refrigerator if you are a fancy person.
You Are Almost There
Now, sitting and waiting patiently for you is the main part, the most time consuming portion of another meal or two for the week. Check out our recipe tab to find some of my meal suggestions and recipes. Go ahead, pull that chicken apart. I would normally do this on the cooking night, but you can do it at any time. Take that chicken and add some taco seasoning. Add some veggies and tortillas and BAAM! All you had to do was cut up some fresh veggies and heat something for a few minutes. Or, saute up some veggies (or used canned or frozen), add chicken and cooked rice; you now have stir fry. Literally, a healthy meal in minutes!
Supper Doubles As Lunch
In order to make the most of your time and money, you have to make supper be your lunch. If you have a person in your life that does not like leftovers, this is the perfect tip for you. Take that extra meat and turn it into a sandwich. Turn it into a wrap. Turn it into a rabbit coming out of a top hat! Come on you can do this. You can be a kitchen magician; it’s not hard once you start. Just use your imagination. You don’t even have to do that really. You can just use Pinterest like everyone else.
My hope is that you try this tip out. It really is a genuine time saver and I know that no matter who the cook is in the household, they can use some extra time in their lives. Wouldn’t you agree? – Staci
